I generally prefer an email, because I might otherwise be engaged. I respond to my emails fairly promptly. You can also leave a contact telephone and let me know what times are convenient to chat.
It helps enourmously if you can provide some initial information about yourself, your business and what you want.
Some food for thought
Think about what you want to achieve with your web site. A good site should have a consistent theme/appearance, several web pages, text and pictures.
A good place to start is to view a number of well designed pages. The Open Source Web Design is an excellent resource. As a general rule simple uncluttered sites work best.
you also need to decide on the actual pages and content. It helps if you create one or more documents (e.g. a Word document for each page) and specify clearly what you want. Decide what you want to call each page and what it contains. The following are some standard pages that many web sites use;
- Index or Home page (front page)
- Products/Portfolio (images / descriptions of your products/work)
- Contact Information (with an e-mail link)
- News (containing a section you might want to update regularly)
- Links (if you want to promote other sites or redirect for further info)
- About or Terms (more information about you and your business, terms of business, privacy policy, and charges)
Consider what sort of functionality you want in you web site. For example:
- on-line shopping
- physical product delivery options (via postage) or online (for music, documents, images)
- accept payment for products/services (e.g. credit card or PayPal)
- registration user info (e.g. for newsletters, storing customer preferences, previous orders)
- search facilities
- messages, feedback, reviews and blogs
Is there a site that does something similar to what you were considering for your site. It's also useful to checkout the web sites of your competitors in the industry. What do they offer and can you provide an alternative, better value, better service or niche product.
Define what are the objectives of your web site. What do you want to achieve and what is the best way to achieve this? Then decide what features are essential and prioritise these accordingly.
Finally, don't forget to have some pictures or images. These all help to add colour, break up your text and cheer up your site.
